THIS MONTH'S FEATURED ARTIST
Nina Mascetti Ritson
Nina Mascetti Ritson is a painter and printmaker who lives in Norfolk. She generally paints and etches landscapes in the Northwest Hills, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and surrounding areas. Raised in North Granby, Connecticut, she graduated summa cum laude from the University of Hartford in Printmaking. Her career began as a graphic designer working at a newspaper, then on to a large firm Westledge Real Estate, designing marketing materials and working with architects/builders to render new construction from blueprints. She went on to do animation for an educational software company until arriving at her current position as a Communications Specialist at the State of Connecticut, managing several units – Print, Mail and Courier, Design and Photography. She has received several awards for her designs and publications for the state and is responsible for designing hundreds of agency logos, branding, brochures, marketing campaigns, signage, banners, annual reports and other printed materials (many known nationally), as well as specialty items for the Governor’s residence.
Her love, however, is etching and painting. She works in a very subdued palette in both media. In print, she chooses intaglio and aquatint on copper plates. Most etchings are of two to three plates which delivers the smoky blends of the inks in her etchings. She has been working in watercolor for several decades until she began to explore oils this year with success.
Her works are small – which she confesses has its own challenges! She has won numerous awards and exhibits at many area art shows as well as the Lyme Art Association. She will be one of the artists exhibiting at the Norfolk Artists and Friends exhibit on August 5, 6,7 at the Yale Art Barn in Norfolk.
In addition to her art life, she has served on the Board of Finance for almost ten years and on the Foundation for Norfolk Living. When not painting she enjoys family, gardens, her animals, and cardio dance and kickboxing classes weekly with great instructors and friends.
