Art Talk with Suzan Scott

Torrington painter Suzan Scott will discuss her current exhibition, This Beautiful Place, what inspires her about the Litchfield Hills and what she sees from her studio. As she has said, “…the question is never what am I looking at; the question is: what do I see? I have created a way of art making that combines my interests in art, nature, and science. Nature informs my work and directs my eye; the effects of light, color and atmospherics feature prominently in my work. New visual information constantly presents itself to me.”

America the Beautiful: A Musical Celebration of 250 Years of the USA

In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra proudly presents America the Beautiful, a musical tribute that reimagines one of the nation’s most beloved patriotic songs. Seven Connecticut composers have been commissioned to each create a new musical setting for each stanza from America the Beautiful, a poem written by Katharine Lee Bates, offering a powerful blend of tradition and community spirit. Featuring the CT State College, Naugatuck Valley Choir under the direction of Gil Harel, and student performers from the region, this celebratory program highlights the enduring beauty of America’s cultural ideals. Performances are free and open to the public. Registration Required.

Litchfield Jazz Talent Search

March 7 is the big day. Please join us for the Litchfield Jazz Camp Talent Search Competition Finals at the Litchfield Community Center, 421 Bantam Rd, Litchfield. Fourteen Semi-finalists chosen from audition tapes will compete for scholarships to the 2026 sessions of Litchfield Jazz Camp (LJC) at the Frederick Gunn School in July. Performances start at 2 PM and are open to the public free of charge.

Players ages 13-17 were invited to apply, and our finalists span that range. They play saxophones, drums, piano, bass, and trumpet. Each will perform a song of their choosing backed by a top-flight professional trio—a rare opportunity for most students so young.

Trio members, all touring and recording professionals and all on faculty at LJC, include Ian Carroll on drums, Grammy-winning artists Zaccai Curtis on piano and Luques Curtis on bass. Competition adjudicators are Albert Rivera, Don Braden, Kris Allen and Vita Muir. Winners will be announced in the late afternoon as soon as deliberations are completed. Refreshments will be served.

Come and share the excitement of this lovely afternoon of music with us. Music is a two-way street. It needs performers and an audience. Online Safety for Seniors

On Tuesday, April 21st at 2 pm the David M. Hunt Library will host Linda Ciano of Project Sage to lead an interactive workshop on digital safety tailored specifically for adults aged 55+. With cybercrime and digital abuse on the rise, it’s important for everyone to be aware of the dangers and – even more important – to be ready with a plan for when something goes wrong. Ciano will begin by outlining some of the threats people face in today’s digital world, and then examine how adults can assemble a team of trusted relatives, friends, and professionals and put together a plan of action for responding to whatever may come their way, from phishing scams to cyber harassment. Registration is requested for this program, please register at the link or by calling the library at (860) 824 7424.
