Book Club: The Phone Booth at the Edge of the World, by Laura Imai Messina
The Gunn Memorial Library Book Club will discuss The Phone Booth at the Edge of the World, a moving and deeply compassionate novel about grief, healing, and human connection. Inspired by a real place in Japan, the story follows Yui, who loses both her mother and daughter in the 2011 tsunami and struggles to move forward in the aftermath of unimaginable loss.
When she learns of a secluded telephone booth where grieving people speak to loved ones they have lost, Yui makes a journey that begins to transform her understanding of sorrow and hope. There she meets Takeshi, a widower caring for his silent young daughter, and together they discover unexpected comfort and companionship.
Both heartbreaking and uplifting, the novel explores the enduring bonds between loved ones and the ways people find strength after tragedy. Readers are invited to join the discussion and reflect on this unforgettable story of resilience and healing.
Registration is required.
