Small Works by Eileen Mooney

Gunn Memorial Library is pleased to present Small Works, an exhibition of paintings by artist Eileen Mooney, on view in the Stairwell Gallery August 22 through October 17.

Working primarily in oil, Eileen Mooney explores the space between observation and abstraction. Her work encompasses three ongoing areas of inquiry: perceptual painting, landscape abstractions, and compositions incorporating numbers and letters. Across these bodies of work, she examines atmosphere, memory, perception, and the relationship between her identities as an artist and mathematics teacher.

Born in Newport, Rhode Island, she studied philosophy at Boston University with a focus on aesthetics before earning her MFA in painting from Western Connecticut State University in 2006. She currently teaches studio art and serves as arts department chair at the Forman School in Litchfield, Connecticut.

Her work has been exhibited throughout the Northeast, including at the Mattatuck Museum, The Taft School’s Mark Potter Gallery, Blue Mountain Gallery, Prince Street Gallery, and Bowery Gallery in New York. She is also a member of Zeuxis and Bowery Gallery.

The public is invited to view Small Works during regular library hours.
