Village Center for the Arts Presents “Flow-motion” — A Solo Exhibition by Scott Northrop

Village Center for the Arts is proud to present Flow-Motion, a solo exhibition by emerging abstract artist Scott Northrop, on view , , :-: in our Main Gallery. This captivating show invites viewers into a world where paint, motion, and emotion collide—revealing the delicate balance between control and chaos.

Northrop’s approach to painting is as fearless as it is fluid. With a background in sculpture and photography, he treats each canvas as a living experiment—where color finds its own direction and movement becomes the storyteller. His work embodies rhythm, spontaneity, and the joy of artistic surrender, offering a visual dialogue that feels both dynamic and deeply human.

Artist Bio – Scott Northrop
Scott Northrop is an emerging abstract artist who believes paint should have a mind of its own. With a background in sculpture and photography, he approaches each canvas as an experiment in motion—where control and chaos negotiate their boundaries. His work has been featured in group exhibitions and Flow-Motion marks his first solo show. Northrop’s paintings capture the rhythm of movement, the humor in unpredictability, and the beauty that emerges when color takes the lead.

Artist Statement – Flow-Motion
Flow-Motion is my exploration of movement—and my ongoing conversation with gravity. My process is a blend of precision and surrender: I pour, tilt, and guide paint until it decides where to land. Each piece begins as an act of control and ends as an act of trust.

I’m drawn to that tension—the space where chaos feels deliberate and balance happens by accident. Flow-Motion captures motion caught mid-sentence, energy that refuses to sit still. These works remind me (and maybe you) that painting—like life—works best when you stop forcing it and simply let it flow.

Village Center for the Arts invites you to experience Flow-Motion and meet the artist at our opening reception on Saturday, November 1st, 6:30-8:00 PM. The exhibition will be on display through the month of November.
Admission is free, and all are welcome.

Come see how movement, color, and creativity converge in this inspiring solo show that celebrates the art of letting go—and letting it flow.

Sorting through the Noise

At 5 pm on October 25, the Cornwall CT Library presents “Confused by the News? Three Journalists Sort through the Noise.” Advance registration on the library website is required for this free event.

For those brave enough to follow the news these days, the experience can be overwhelming. What’s real and what’s fake? What is the truth? How is technology changing the equation? Journalists Kurt Andersen, Charlotte Howard, and Joel Simon discuss the state of the news industry and provide practical guidance on how people across the political spectrum who want to be informed and engaged can stay up to speed.

Kurt Andersen is the author of the recent New York Times bestsellers Evil Geniuses and Fantasyland, as well as the bestselling novels You Can’t Spell America Without Me, True Believers, Heyday, and Turn of the Century. Recently he co-created the satirical streaming series Command Z with Stephen Soderbergh, and co-produced and hosted the podcast Nixon at War. He’s a regular contributor to the New York Times and The Atlantic. Previously he was host of the public radio show Studio 360, a columnist for the New Yorker, editor in chief of New York, and co-founder of Spy magazine.

Charlotte Howard is The Economist’s executive editor, New York bureau chief and co-host of the Checks and Balance podcast. In prior roles at The Economist she has covered American business, the energy sector and climate policy, health care and America’s Midwest.

Joel Simon is founding director of the Journalism Protection Initiative at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY and the former executive director of the Committee to Protect Journalists. He is author of four books and writes on media issues for the New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and Columbia Journalism Review.
