February James Exhibit

Artist February James typically uses watercolors and ink, as well as oil pastels and oil paints, to create ethereal, expressionistic portraits that reflect on identity forming behaviors within the framework as it probes the human condition. They feature dreamlike subjects with smudged and distorted features which seek to capture the essence of the person rather than the likeness.

For this special exhibition at Peggy Mercury, James explores the idea of XANADU: A vision in a dream, a metaphor for opulence or an idyllic place, based upon Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s description of Shangdu in his poem “Kubla Khan.” The idea of the Muse, if you must, and inspiration in general, is explored in this new medium of expression with seven ceramic sculptures.

We are beyond excited to celebrate this moment and the opening of this exhibit with the artist on Saturday, November 16th from 4-6 PM.
