Cigar Box Art Exhibit
In late August and September, the David M. Hunt Library in Falls Village (CT) will host “Cigar Box Tradition Redux,” a group exhibition of over 30 local artists’ transformations of the titular box into objet d’art. There will be a celebratory reception for the artists, with refreshments, on Saturday, August 31 from 4PM to 6PM. This event is free and open to the public; families with children are welcome to attend. The exhibition will be on display during library hours from August 23 through September 20. For more information call the library at 860-824-7424 or visit huntlibrary.org/art-wall.
Among the artists participating are Marsha Altemus, Sue Arnholter, Lori Barker, Sue Berg, Pamela Berkeley, Elizabeth Buttler, Robert Cronin, Lesley Ehlers, Sergei Fedorjaczenko, Zoe Fedorjaczenko, Ingrid Freidenbergs, Emily Fuller, Susan Hennelly, Cynthia Hill, Arvolyn Hill, John Hodgson, Shaari Horowitz, Vincent Inconiglios, Nick Jacobs, Sallie Ketcham, Rika Laser, Sara Laser, Tom Lotas, Danielle Mailer, Louise March, Willie Marlowe, Roger McKee, Patty Mullins, Ken Musselman, David Noonan, Robin O’Connor, Sybil Perry, Susan Rand, Diane Schapira, Joel Schapira, Tilly Strauss, Carol Timolat, and Lilly Woodworth.
The exhibition is curated by Lilly Woodworth, a Sharon-based artist, and Garth Kobal, who has been organizing Hunt Library’s group exhibitions since 2011. An earlier edition of the show took place in 2016, at which time Woodworth said, “We thought, what a great idea. We’ll open it up to the community, for people who like to play.” Kobal said, “This year’s exhibition upholds that tradition with a lot of fun, uncommon artworks made with commonplace materials.”
All artworks in the exhibition are available for purchase, a portion of which benefits David M. Hunt Library.
