Big Earl Onsite Estate Auction
The remarkable estate collection of the late “Big Earl” L. Postol, representing a lifetime of collecting and an extraordinary accumulation of antiques, decorative arts and objects of interest, will be dispersed during a three-day live, on-site auction Friday through Sunday, September 25–27, at the estate premises in Woodbury.
Schwenke Auctioneers of Woodbury have been commissioned to sell the contents of the residence in their entirety, and have described the Postol estate as among the most remarkable single-owner collections they have encountered in more than 50 years of buying and selling antiques and conducting estate auctions. Among the many categories represented are jewelry, sterling silver, silver plate, woven and ethnic baskets, shell art, advertising memorabilia and collectibles, an extensive collection of flower frogs, vintage wire kitchen implements, rugs, Victorian and reproduction furniture, garden decorations, vintage clothing and much more. The breadth of the holdings reflects the wide-ranging interests of a dedicated collector and promises discoveries across numerous collecting fields throughout all three days of the sale. The collection will be offered over three days on September 25, 26 and 27, beneath tents on the estate grounds. All lots will be sold to the highest bidder, without reserve and subject only to the auctioneer’s discretion. Bidding will be conducted exclusively in person, with no internet bidding. Some items may be offered in an estate sale format either on Friday or Sunday.
Because of the extraordinary quantity of material in the residence, together with close quarters, two sets of stairs and the limited timetable in which the collection must be dispersed and the house emptied, a traditional preview within the residence is not possible. In its place, the auctioneers have prepared an extensive online photographic preview designed to give prospective bidders an opportunity to examine the collection prior to the sale. The photographic preview will encompass a substantial selection of the property and is intended to assist collectors and dealers in planning their attendance during the three-day event.
Please refer to the Schwenke Auctioneers website for information about the auction location along with other important auction details, auction terms, parking information and more, which will be posted for view on and after September 18th.
