Art Opening: Michael Quadland
Leaning on Limits Paintings & Sculpture
May 25 – June 2
Opening Reception: Thursday, May 28 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Michael Quadland majored in art at Dartmouth College where he received distinction in sculpture.
After a career in New York City as psychologist, researcher, professor and clinician, he published two novels and was very pleased to return fifteen years ago to painting and sculpture.
His paintings are acrylic on panel and are influenced by Sean Scully, Mark Rothko, Joan Mitchell, and Jackson Pollack. Sculpture influencers are Javier Marin, Giacometti, Brancusi, Barbara Hepworth and Lynn Chadwick.
Michael tends to work on several pieces simultaneously going from one to another while letting pieces “rest” and “mature” in themselves and in his mind. This means resisting his natural tendency in all things to rush. Ultimately he finds that the longer a piece rests the better the final outcome.
Michael’s studio is in Morris. He is represented by galleries in Philadelphia, Miami, Washington, CT, and Southampton and Greenpoint on Long Island. He is very happy to be returning to the Jamie Gagarin Gallery at OWL.
