Native American Rights Activism
On Tuesday, November 25th at 6 pm the David M. Hunt Library will host Dr. Nancy Bonvillain for a virtual program on Native American Rights Activism. Dr. Bonvillain will lead a discussion centering on Indigenous societies globally and their efforts to secure political, economic, and cultural rights. These include protections of their lands and resources, sovereign control of their communities, and maintenance of their languages and sacred practices.
Nancy is an anthropologist and linguist (PhD. Columbia University), who has done fieldwork with the Navajo Nation and the Akwesasne Mohawk First Nation in Canada. She has been involved for many decades with language programs at Akwesasne.
