Outdoor Concert: How Lovely Are The Messengers

The award-winning music organization Crescendo will perform a concert devoted to well-known and beloved choral favorites, dramatic and sublime, in a special outdoor setting. Included in the concert are English Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic, and American traditional Spirituals.

The program is designed to comfort and uplift our audience members after the long absence of live concerts. It is a program for lovers of choral music. Among the composers represented are Mozart, Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Mendelssohn, Tallis, Franck, and Stainer.

Featured music will include J.S. Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” and the “Sanctus” from his majestic B-Minor Mass, John Stainer’s dramatic English anthem, “I Saw the Lord,” Cesar Franck’s mystical “Panis Angelicus,” the moving Spirituals “Deep River” and “Swing Low,” G.F. Handel’s soaring “Hallelujah” and the “Amen” from his “Messiah,” Mendelssohn’s “How Lovely are the Messengers,” and W. A. Mozart’s “Ave Verum Corpus.”

The Crescendo Chorus, Vocal Ensemble, and soloists will be accompanied by Christopher Belluscio and Brian Kanner, trumpets, and Juan Mesa, organ. Crescendo’s founder and artistic director Christine Gevert will conduct.

Tickets for this concert are general lawn seating (bring your own chair) at $25 and youth $10. They can be purchased online at worldclassmusic.org or at the door. All performers, staff members, and volunteers are fully vaccinated and will be masked. We will follow state and federal guidelines for Covid prevention. Unvaccinated audience members must wear a mask at all times, and we recommend wearing a mask to all.

Out of caution given the current increase in COVID cases in our area, this concert has been moved outside to the Lions’ Club Pavilion at Veterans’ Field, 29 Sharon Station Rd., Sharon CT. Starting time has been moved earlier to 5 pm
