WSO’s Annual Picnic & Pops
Get out the picnic basket and a parasol, it’s time for Waterbury Symphony Orchestra’s Annual Picnic and Pops! This three-decade old tradition serves up the sounds of summer and features music by Gershwin, Ellington, Sousa and Woodbury’s own Leroy Anderson, and the beguiling vocal stylings of WSO fan favorite broadway sensation Maria Wirries, who invites you, in the tradition of Disney, to Let it Go!
This concert will be a family-friendly symphonic experience, set in the backdrop of Woodbury’s beautiful Hollow Park. Led by Music Director & Conductor, Leif Bjaland, the program will also feature the Big Band musicians of the WSO.
SUMMERTIME SWING! is inspired by the summer concerts of yesteryear – green grass, shady trees, Ice cream, balloons, picnics and time with friends and family, all accompanied by patriotic music, movie scores and a cavalcade of great American songs. There will be tributes to Burt Bacharach and big band tunes of the golden era of swing. Sashays into music of Disney including Let it Go and When You Wish Upon a Star, all sung by Broadway sensation Maria Wirries. Bring out your candelabras and fine china and compete for prizes in the Great Woodbury Picnic Challenge. For family fun, Summer Swing! is all you could wish for!
An outdoor concert in a beautiful setting, bring your lawn chairs and/or blankets and picnics and … don’t forget your favorite bubbly and buddies.
