The Nature of the Future: Elizabeth Kolbert and Gillian Blake

Writer Elizabeth Kolbert will speak with her longtime editor, Cornwall’s own Gillian Blake, about the process between writers and editors, as well as the contents of her new book Under a White Sky: The Nature of the Future. A much anticipated follow up to her Pulitzer Prize-winning last book, The Sixth Extinction, this just released publication delves into how the very sorts of human interventions that have imperiled our planet are increasingly seen as the only hope for its salvation.

Elizabeth Kolbert is the author of Field Notes from a Catastrophe: Man, Nature, and Climate Change and The Sixth Extinction, for which she won the Pulitzer Prize. She has also been awarded two National Magazine Awards for her writing at The New Yorker, where she has been a staff writer since 1999, and the Blake-Dodd Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She lives in Williamstown, Massachusetts, with her husband and children.

Gillian Blake is SVP, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief at Crown, a division of Penguin Random House. She has edited many bestsellers, including Elizabeth Kolbert’s Pulitzer Prize-winning The Sixth Extinction, Rachel Maddow’s Blowout, and Matthew McConaughey’s Greenlights. Her upcoming projects at Crown include memoirs by singer songwriter Brandi Carlile and artist Ai Weiwei as well as new books by Susan Cain, Tad Friend and A.J. Jacobs. Over the course of her career she has worked with Andy Cohen, Sheila Heti, Rob Lowe, Jaron Lanier, Russell Brand, Anthony Doerr, Kate Walbert, Peggy Orenstein, Harold Bloom, George Howe Colt and Adrian Nicole LeBlanc.
