Candelabra 90 – Steven Lowy at Judy Black Park
Steven Lowy is a Connecticut-based artist and owner/founder of Portico New York Inc. in Manhattan. Lowy’s enthusiasm for a reduced carbon footprint led to the creation of functional solar based art. The notion that solar installations could please the eye and simultaneously generate reusable energy inspired Lowy to begin this environmentally conscious art expedition.
Beyond their aesthetic appeal, each sculpture can be coupled with more traditional solar installations to help offset private or commercial electric consumption while also meeting “1% for art” requirements for public art projects. Lowy is now also planning projects that will include wind energy in order to facilitate energy generation both day and night.
