Marcel Breuer in Budapest

From Tubular Steel Chairs to Brutalism: Marcel Breuer Collection in Budapest with
Art Historian Ágnes Anna Sebestyén

In-Person & on Zoom:
Monday, July 6 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM
Registration is required to attend In-Person.

Through the collection of the Hungarian Museum of Architecture, this presentation highlights Marcel Breuer’s achievements as both a pioneering furniture designer and a visionary architect, tracing the legacy of one of the twentieth century’s most influential designers. Art Historian Ágnes Anna Sebestyén will highlight the museum’s recent acquisition from Breuer’s cottage in Cape Cod and a New York-based Hungarian-born collector, Michael Szarvasy’s donation of objects, including furniture, models, books, and photographs.

The book (a bilingual, Hungarian-English publication) and this presentation, explore Breuer’s Hungarian roots and connections with his American career, and also features aspects of Hungarian émigré culture in the US.

About the Author:
