Maple Sugaring Expert Talk

2 pm

Are you interested in exploring the mysteries and mystique of maple sugar?  Could sugar makers be “the canary in the coal mine” for climate change?

On Saturday January 25th Flanders invites you to join David K. Leff award winning essayist, former deputy commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection and former board member of the Connecticut Maple Syrup Producers Association, for a slide show and illustrated talk about the many aspects of maple sugaring.

Find out how this unique ancient northeastern North American product was discovered and the high-tech techniques it takes to produce it today. Is maple syrup the next miracle food? Learn why some people think it is and how you can make and enjoy your own syrup. As a former sugar maker himself, Leff will give you an insider’s view. The book he has authored, “Maple Sugaring: Keeping it Real in New England” will be available for sale and signing.

The program is taking place that day at The Studio located at the corner of Flanders and Church Hill Road in Woodbury.  The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members.

Those interested may register online at www.flandersnaturecenter.org or call 203-263-3711, ext. 12, for more information.
