Kent Art Association First Member’s Show of Season
The first Members’ Show of the season is from March 21 through April 12, Thursdays through Sundays from 1-5 at the Gallery at Kent Art Association, located at 21 South Main Street in Kent, CT. At this first of two Members’ Shows, artists will display their most recent work. New this year, participants will have the opportunity to hang their own art. Awards of Excellence will be presented on March 21 at 3 pm during the reception, which is from 2-4 with refreshments. Admission is free.
We are honored to have two award-winning artists as judges, Mary Anne Carley of Sharon, CT, and Gino Zenobia of New Milford. Mary Anne Carley paints mostly with watercolors, but on thin rice paper instead of the traditional watercolor paper. Her focus is to capture the mood, movement, color and line of what she sees. Currently, she is also working with acrylic painting and mono-print techniques. She has received awards at various juried shows in Danbury, Roxbury, Kent, Lime Rock, and Sharon, CT. Her work is also online at the Episcopal Church Visual Arts Permanent Online Juried Collection. Mary Anne studied art at the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY, at Skidmore College, and received a BS from the Hartford School of Art as well as an MS in Art from Central Connecticut College. She also taught art at the Litchfield CT Junior High School. Besides painting, Mary Anne is also the Chair of Juried Shows at the Trinity Gallery in Lime Rock, CT. Below is an example of her work, “Beyond the Wall.”

Also judging members’ art will be Gino Zenobia, a visual artist and percussionist who in 1974 moved from Connecticut to San Francisco where he worked as a sculptor and musician. In 1976, he moved to Laguna Beach, CA and attended Saddleback College to study art and music. It was at this time that he began to fuse his art and music into a visual art form that he termed “Rhythmic Primitive.” Over the years, Gino has won many awards for his work, such as at the Brandywine Art Festival in Brandywine, Delaware, and at the Sawdust Art Festival in Laguna Beach, California (three times). Recently, Gino received an Honorable Mention from “Art at the Meeting House” in Roxbury, CT (2016), and the Carolyn B Fisher Award for Sculpture from the Kent Art Association. He has also been given The Virginia ZIC Memorial Award for Sculpture from The Society of Creative Arts (2017) in Newtown, CT. Below is Gino’s work entitled “Solar Storm.”
