Love Musical Theatre? Learn more about the roots of this art form. Our seminar on the History of American Musical Theatre begins next Monday, June 22nd.

It has been posited that America’s greatest gift to the world-wide theatre is the modern stage musical. Over the course of two sessions we will discuss the form from 19th-century precursors to the turn of the 21st century. Particular attention will be paid to significant turning-points in the form; Showboat, Oklahoma!, South Pacific, Jesus Christ Superstar, and HAIR will be examined in some detail. Participants will be encouraged to watch these shows independently.
