François Dischinger Into The Light: Photography + Painting Opening Saturday Nov 2 Reception 5-8pm

Francois Dischinger’s work delves the potential of analogue photography and its historical relevance. Referencing the techniques of Man Ray and Gottfried Jager he articulates an artistic impulse on light sensitive papers—resultant explosions of color and gestural expressions that convey mysterious shapes and shadows, leaving the viewer to interpret their little trip anyway they like.
The work is produced using traditional photographic dark room materials such as light sensitive paper, modified enlargers, graphic screens, chemistry and various actions all employed in a completely dark studio.
Literally, working on the surface of the photographic paper the intervening “light measures” generate a mark.. a line, a shadow, or blur, while the resulting compositions on the photographic paper are then processed in chemistry and subtle interventions in temperature and timing result in a unique work.
