Exploring Women’s Suffrage with Author Jessica Jenkins

The Litchfield Historical Society is thrilled to welcome back Jessica Jenkins, former Historical Society Curator, and author of “Exploring Women’s Suffrage Through 50 Historic Treasures” for a special virtual lecture on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 6:00pm.
From hunger strikes to massive parades, the American women’s suffrage movement grabbed the attention of citizens and politicians around the United States. Today, countless museums, libraries, universities, and historic sites care for the objects and places that tell the story of suffrage. From posters and lapel buttons, to luncheonette plates and banners, the history of the movement is embodied in a wide variety of artifacts that have stood the test of time. Jenkins will share some of the stories and what went into pulling together this volume commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment.
Jessica D. Jenkins has worked in museums and cultural institutions for more than a decade, specializing in collection and exhibition curation. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in history at Quincy University (Quincy, IL), she received a Master of Arts in public history from Central Connecticut State University. As a graduate student Jessica undertook the study of the women’s suffrage movement, continuing to deepen her knowledge and study of the subject since. Her previous publications on the topic include articles for the journal Connecticut History and the magazine Connecticut Explored. In 2015, Jenkins curated the Litchfield Historical Society exhibit, Ballots for Both: The Fight for Equal Voting Rights. In her current role as vice president of collections and storytelling for Minnetrista (Muncie, Indiana), Jessica leads the team charged with caring for the institution’s museum collection and archives. She also oversees the museum’s exhibition program.

The lecture will be presented over Zoom. Pre-registration is requested. To Register, email [email protected].
