St. Andrew’s Presents Poulenc’s “Babar,” Narrated by Margo Martindale

Sunday, Feb. 11th, 3:00 pm at St. Andrew’s Parish, 1 Main St. (corner of Rtes. 7 & 341), Kent, CT 06757. Tickets $20 at https://bit.ly/kingbabar and the door. Free for children under 18.

Music in the Nave presents a classical children’s concert featuring Poulenc’s The Story of Babar the Little Elephant, narrated by esteemed actress Margo Martindale, accompanied by pianist Margarita Nuller. The program begins with cellist Eliot Bailen playing his Ferdinand the Bull with daughter Julia Bailen narrating, followed by Mr. Bailen and Ms. Nuller performing Saint- Saens’s “The Swan” from Carnival of the Animals.

In 1940, Francis Poulenc was at the piano when a niece handed him the Babar storybook and asked him to “play it.” The music he improvised became the much-loved work we have today.

Emmy award-winner Margo Martindale has appeared in the films The Firm, Dead Man Walking, The Hours, Million Dollar Baby, Secretariat and Cocaine Bear, the TV series Justified, The Americans, The Good Wife, Mrs. America, Bojack Horseman and Sneaky Pete and a Broadway revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, for which she received a Tony nomination.

Eliot Bailen, Founder and Artistic Director of the Sherman Chamber Ensemble and Principal Cellist of the New Jersey Festival Orchestra, was recently commissioned by the New Choral Society. His daughter, Julia, performs with her two brothers in the rock group, Bailen.

Margarita Nuller gave her debut recital at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall as winner of Artist International Auditions, and has performed with the Arkansas Symphony, Danbury Symphony and Klassika Orchestra in St. Petersburg. She currently teaches piano at the Kent School.

The concert will take place Sunday, February 11th, 3:00 pm at St. Andrew’s Parish, 1 North Main Street (corner of Routes 7 & 341), Kent, CT 06757. Adult admission is $20; tickets are available at https://bit.ly/kingbabar and the door. Free admission for children under 18.
