Explore Taíno symbols and Indigenous Caribbean traditions in this free mixed-media workshop with Kasike Wakyua Rafael Feliciano-Roman. Create layered artwork inspired by traditional iconography.
Explore the history, artistry, and cultural significance of Indigenous Caribbean symbols in this engaging mixed-media workshop led by Kasike Wakyua Rafael Feliciano-Roman, the Executive Director of the Afro Caribbean Cultural Center. Participants will learn about Taíno and other Indigenous symbolic traditions, examining how symbols communicate identity, spirituality, community, and connections to the natural world. Using brown paper bags, parchment paper, and drawing materials, students will create layered works of art inspired by traditional Taíno iconography while reflecting on the enduring importance of Indigenous cultures throughout the Caribbean.
