I had so much fun gathering with our core team for a holiday cookie swap this week. I’m very impressed with their cookie making skills! Very demure. Very on point! 👌 😁 I’m sure you must be saying that with all that sugar of course one would finish it off with a cake! 😉 That bit was a lovely and thoughtful very very late gesture for my October birthday (my fault that we’ve all been too busy to gather until now). I must give a shout out to @thebakehousect for making such a delicious chocolatey treat for us. Thank you @georgialopresti_m for coordinating the cake and my lovely gift. It was really hard not to keep all the cookies for ourselves but we wanted to spread the holiday cheer more so we brought boxes and gifts to Friends in Service to Humanity of NWCT (FISH). Located in Torrington, CT, they are providing temporary housing for multiple families this holiday season. On behalf of myself, and the entire Happening in the Hills Media team, we wish you all a happy, healthy, joyful, peaceful holiday season filled with hope and love. It’s a privilege to share all the stories about the wonderful people and places in our region. 🥰 Here’s to more ways to share those stories in 2025. 🥂 Mary Beth Lawlor
Harriet Beecher Stowe is best known for her anti-slavery novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and her work as an anti-abolitionist; but here in Litchfield County, she is also known as one of 13 children of famed preacher Lyman Beecher (and sister of the even more famous Henry Ward Beecher).

Although Harriet and the Beecher family lived in diverse parts of the country during their lives, they are most associated with Litchfield. Some of Harriet’s writings give a picture of life here in the county seat—notably her book Poganuc People.
