Once Upon a Stardom
A Free Event: Studio Hill Gallery, 507 Main ST S, Woodbury, CT will be presenting “Once Upon a Stardom” a solo art show featuring the paintings of renown Roxbury, CT based artist Susan Kapilow. Kapilow’s illustrious career as a portrait artist to famous old Hollywood celebrities, Rock and Roll stars, politicians, and the art world will be on display along with her most recent works.
Susan’s career in the arts began in the theater at age 17. She performed in various Broadway plays including Arthur Miller’s “A View from the Bridge”. After acting, her attention turned to sculpture and portraiture and it was a sculpture of rock star Jim Morrison which landed her a scholarship to the prestigious Academia delle Belli Arte in Florence, Italy.
It was her portrait paintings that elevated Susan to prominence in New York. She was commissioned by the U.S. government to paint the official portrait of Donna Shalala, Secretary of Health and Human Services under the Clinton Administration. Her prominence in New York got the attention of Hollywood where she was commissioned to paint the portraits of famous actors and their families such as Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman as well as Annette Benning and Warren Beatty. These, along with her portraits of rock stars Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain, prominent NY philanthropists such as Peggy Guggenheim, and her most recent works will be on display from September 11, 2022, through October 9, 2022. A reception to meet the artist will take place on Sunday September 11, 2022, from 3pm-5pm.
The Gallery is open Wednesdays through Sundays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment. For more information, call 203-405-6500, email [email protected]. Follow Studio Hill on Instagram @studiohillct
