Mientras Me Abraza – Barqoue – Latino – Folk Fusion
Chamber music with a “twist”: the repertoire and the instruments not only cross over into different genres of classical, folk, and contemporary music, but break down the barriers between them and illustrate, how connected these distinctive styles of music are. The unifying element is the folk dance – from Poland over Spain to Latin America, connecting different genres and eras from the Baroque to present times.
The ensemble will present their own arrangements of three Baroque works by Telemann and J.S. Bach, showing this great fusion of styles.
Traditional Spanish, and European dances – including Polish ones – influenced the Folk music in Colonial Latin America. The ensemble’s arrangements of Mariachi tunes and other traditional dances from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Bolivia, and Chile will be preceded by improvisations in Baroque style. Two contemporary works based on Latin American dances, by Dan Román (Puerto Rico), and Esteban Ariel D’Antona (Argentina) were written for this ensemble since 2020 and will connect the past with the present. Job Salazar, violin, and percussion – Carlos Boltes, viola, and charango – Christine Gevert, virginal, and organ.
