Washington Drive-Thru Food Drive

Washington Community Religious Congregations Unite Again to Support Community

Following successful food drives held throughout the summer of 2020, the Washington Council of Congregations (WCOC) has resumed its efforts to supply the foodbanks of both New Milford and Washington-Warren. The second Drive-Thru Food Drive of 2021 is scheduled for July 24, 2021 at the First Congregational Church of Washington. The WCOC anticipates that July drive will produce even more support, with all contributions, once again, benefiting the Washington-Warren & New Milford Food Banks. Leading the effort for the July 24, 2021 Food Drive is St. John’s Episcopal Church of Washington.
Since the spread of Covid-19, the New Milford food bank has experienced a 20% increase in need. If there was ever a time for our community to give generously and help our neighbors in need, it’s now.

The July 24th Drive-Thu Food Drive will take place from 10am-2pm at the First Congregational Church or Washington (on the Green). Donors are asked to remain in their cars while volunteers remove contributions from their vehicle backseats or trunks. Monetary donations will also be accepted and should be made payable to St. John’s Episcopal Church.
In addition, the WCOC continues its efforts to collect fruit and vegetables at the Washington Farmer’s Market where visitors, farmers, and local gardeners alike donate their excess produce to be crafted into healthy meals for those in need by the Community Culinary Institute of Northwest Connecticut. The WCOC will have a representative on site each Saturday from 10am-1pm at the Judy Black Park to gather and deliver donations.

For more information about the Washington Council of Congregations or how you can get involved, please contact Joseph Claro.
The WCOC is comprised of seven established religious congregations in the Town of Washington who have joined together to form the Washington Council of Congregations. The goal of the Council is to magnify impact and unify forces to better serve their neighbors through a variety of collaborative efforts.

The July 24th Drive-Thu Food Drive will take place from 10am-2pm at the First Congregational Church or Washington (on the Green).
