Bulls Bridge is one of the few functional covered bridges remaining in Connecticut.  Built in 1842, the bridge was one of the few ways to cross the Housatonic River from New York State, and was intended to bring more traffic into the area. In addition to the scenic wooden bridge, the area features waterfalls, rapids, overviews, a small gorge, and hiking trails which link up to the nearby Appalachian Trail.

Eric Sloane (1905-1985) was a prolific artist, author and illustrator of over 30 books, and an avid collector of Americana. His extensive collection of hand tools is displayed in a building gifted to the State in 1969 by Stanley Works, the Connecticut-based tool manufacturing company, to mark their 125th anniversary. The collection tells a fascinating story about bygone times and the great American heritage of craftsmanship.

The Little House

This open studio space is one large room with a king-size bed at one end, and a sleeper sofa and fireplace at the other. Newly constructed in 2022, this charming space has the same footprint, as well as the original fireplace, chimney, floorboards, and beams of the antique house that stood here previously. We tried to save the original house, but it was too far gone.

The Train Car

Climb aboard this 1800s baggage car that’s been fully updated and beautifully transformed into an open studio space. The bright and modern interior includes colorful, plaid fabrics, rustic train memorabilia, and lots of natural wood.

The Bunk House

This early 1900s barn-like structure was originally a bunkhouse for railroad employees. Now fully renovated but still steeped in historic charm, it features original wide plank wood floors, wood walls, and a rustic yet comfortable interior. Located 5 miles north of Kent on Route 7, this park has a trail loop that goes over the falls and into the forest, and is a designated trout park. But the main attraction is the stunning waterfall dropping 250 feet in under a quarter mile. There’s swimming in the basin at the bottom of the falls. Beautiful all year round. Bring the kids and have a picnic. Can be crowded on weekends in the summer.

Kent Falls State Park

The 2,300-acre Macedonia Brook State Park originated with a 1,552-acre gift from the White Memorial Foundation of Litchfield in 1918. The park’s exciting terrain has resulted from the slow wearing down of its hard rock formation base. The Blue Trail crosses Cobble Mountain and several other peaks, offering outstanding views of the Catskills and Taconics. Numerous springs and streams add to the pleasure of hiking.
