The Mill School House in Morris is 250!

The Morris Historical Society invites you to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Mill School House on Sunday, August 7, with a town-wide open house, daylong activities and raffle prizes. Raffle tickets are $5; all proceeds will go to repair the landmark elementary school, which is on the National Register of Historic Buildings.

The festivities will begin at noon in the Morris Community Hall, with a birthday cake, light refreshments and a short program. At 1:30, the whole town will open its doors; the Reading Room, Library, Congregational Church, James Morris School, the Fire House, the Museum and the Mill School House will all welcome visitors.

At 2:30, Morris Beach and Rec is sponsoring a Concert on the Green by the bluegrass band Dim Lights Thick Smoke, followed by the raffle drawing. Prizes include a king-size Amish quilt, a painting of Old Engine 2, and gift certificates to Giovanni’s Restaurant, Popey’s, The Deli and Bella Luna. Raffle tickets are available in Morris at The Deli,7 West St., at Bella Luna, 11 Watertown Road, or online from [email protected]. Winners do not need to be present.
